Motherrr Moments

Straight from my favorite mother daughter website, Motherrr.com, a site about "rebuilding relationships one mother-daughter at a time". They have begun producing their own original "Motherrr! Moments Comedy Series", in which they successfully recreate common mother daughter disputes.  While its not funny while its happening to you, to an outsider its hilarious.  The site also offers helpful tips on how to handle your relationship with you mother.

You Always Have a Choice

As with other decisions in life, you have three very distinct choices in dealing with your mother-daughter relationship:

  1. To Walk Away
  2. Make a Change to the Situation
  3. Make a Change to Your Attitude/Reaction

Teen Mom

MTV airs a show called Teen Mom, Wednesday evenings at 10pm.  If you're a night owl, or just having trouble sleeping, its an amazing voyage into the lives of teenage mothers.  The show stems from the original show, 16 and Pregnant.  It chronicles 16-year-old girl's lives after they give birth.  Some choose to keep their child, while others make the painful decision to give their children up for adoption.  In addition to the show's ability to share with the audience the trials and tribulations of these young girls, they also make many references to the mother daughter struggles that the girls face daily.  Take a look:

Dear Dr. Terri Apter, please save me from my mother in-law...

Psychologist and writer, Dr. Terri Apter specializes in family dynamics and works to shed light on woman's relationships with their mothers and daughters.  She even works to improve in-law relationships through her question and answer website, Mother In-Law Stories.  Take a look at a recent question from a follower:

"My question for Dr. Apter is:
My MIL is obsessed with my DH.  She has gone as far as introducing him as HER husband.  People have brought this to my attention, but my husband says that I have to live with it.  What can I do, short of divorcing him?  He does seem to feed the problem by calling her and seeing her EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Dr. Apter's reply:
Could you think about which bothers you more - your mother-in-law's comments or your husband's attachment?  Her comments are so bizarre that, indeed, you could ignore them.  Claiming to be her son's husband puts her in a poor light, not you.

What may be more upsetting is that it seems, if I have understood you, that your husband does not seem concerned about your feelings.  That is another issue, and you might want to address that".

Even if your own mother isn't in the picture, his mother may be!
